O'Grady grew up in Wheaton, Illinois and graduated from the North High School of Wheaton in 1981. She is the daughter of Jan O'Grady (a financial planner) as well as Jim O'Grady. Her parents raised her within Wheaton (Illinois) and she graduated in 1981 from North High School of Wheaton. She was a part of a couple of commercials on television, but then moved from Illinois to Los Angeles. Her career started as an actress in commercials and models with Montgomery Ward.
