The daughter of Dennis Alan Taylor, a former bank executive along with Jennifer Marina Joy, a psychologist who is about half English and half Spanish. The father of her is Argentine, of Scottish-English descent. Her mother's ancestry is Spanish as well as English. She was the first born of a household that included six children. Four of them are siblings from the previous marriage to Taylor's father. They moved with the family from Buenos Aires to Victoria, London at the age of six when Taylor-Joy was born. Taylor Joy said the move from Buenos Aires to Victoria was tough and she didn't take the time to learn English, hoping to go again to Argentina. Hill House became her school that she chose after being ordered to move schools. Later she attended Queen's Gate School, where she studied dance and performed in productions. At the age of 16, she left school to pursue an acting career. Taylor-Joy had always wanted to work as an actor. As a teenager, Sarah Doukas Founder of Storm Management gave her the chance to be a model.
